Who is Chico Smaccs?
Arizona has many secrets within the valley, and this particular hidden gem it came across was not only inspiring, but also educational. Here is an artist who stands out with his lingo, versatile flows, and not to forget a sound to remember. At the age of 20, Chico Smaccs, who was born as Diego Arreola, has already accomplished most of what others dream of.
Since Chico Smaccs was 11 years old, he would write poems and fictional literature, and his love of music is what pushed him to turn those pieces of writing into songs. When he was 15, he began to recite his lyrics in the halls at school and even freestyling with friends. A year later, he began making actual songs at his house with only a $100 microphone and a 2013 MacBook Pro. Chico Smaccs learned how to engineer himself until he began to connect with other artists and engineers across the valley and started recording in actual studios.
From then on, Chico Smaccs has made multiple studio singles, one mixtape “PITBENZO,” one studio album “CHICOS WRLD” and has made multiple show appearances in Arizona.
Chico Smaccs grew up in section 8 housing of National City, California, which is a city within San Diego. Growing up, he listened to artists such as Snoop Dogg, Eazy-E, Project Patt, Pimp C, Suga Free, Tupac, Zapp & Roger, Wiz Khalifa, Michael Jackson and Lowrider Oldies. Now his modern inspirations are Drakeo the Ruler, Baby Smoove, Veeze, J. Cole and Lucki.
Chico Smaccs’ reason for making music is to make an impact on the world hoping to inspire younger audiences to not be afraid of who they are. After going in and out of jail and getting shot, he realized that the streets only take one of two places: death or jail. Deciding to go legit, he now owns two businesses and is even working on a podcast.
Outside of music, Chico Smaccs is an amateur fighter with a record of 5–2 in boxing and is a Window Glazier as well as a young father. He now sees that there is more to life than violence and drugs, and hopes to help the youth quickly realize this before it’s too late.
This is definitely an artist to watch and as he continues to make a path and name for himself, we can all say that we were here early!
