Who is LJ Polo?
LJ Polo is a 23-year-old artist from South London, United Kingdom. He doesn’t really have a specific genre to get labelled as, but so far has made more R&B drill/rap songs. In terms of the beats he uses, they vary across most genres. A lot of people say LJ Polo is best on a drill type beat, but he really compliments himself when he jumps on a slower, more chilled R&B/wave sound too.
LJ Polo started music due to his love of the art. He grew up around music being played in the house 24/7, despite football being his first love. He always had signs at points in his life and an inner inclination that music was his calling, before writing and recording his first song on his phone at 15 about a situation that had transpired in the recent months.
After LJ Polo showed one of his boys, his reaction really gave him the confidence and realization that he’s actually good at this. From there, LJ Polo hasn’t looked back. Perfecting his art and pen game behind closed doors, he dropped his first collective song in March of 2020 with former group 9inety Boyz called “9inety Boyz Freestyle” on Mixtape Madness.
In terms of artists that have inspired LJ from a young age, he listened to various genres such as Jay Z, Eminem, Kayne West, Snoop Dogg, Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston and Nelly Furtado. These where influences he got from his parents, and at a young age whilst growing up in South London found himself listening to Giggs, Skepta, Chip, Tinchy Stryder, Devlin, Youngs Teflon and Ghetts. These artists were more relatable to his environment and culture.
As he has grown older, his musical influences vary from different sounds and genres including artists such as D-Block Europe, Speaker Knockerz, Gunna, Offset, K-Trap, 67, Lil Durk, Yung Fume and female artists such as Dua Lipa, Ariana Grande and Adele.
Apart from music, LJ Polo’s main love is football, either playing it or going to watch his boyhood team Chelsea FC. In 5 years, he sees himself at the top of the UK scene, still making consistently great music.
This is definitely an artist to watch and as he continues to make a path and name for himself, we can all say that we were here early!
